Portsmouth Flats by District

Portsmouth isn't the largest city in the world by any means, and most people don't know that it is actually a small island – however there are some different areas of the city, small different districts that have their own feel and pace of life. Many young professionals and a lot of first time buyers will actually head to the city center itself to invest in property. Portsmouth hasn't just yet been hit with the economic surge that made nearby Brighton almost as expensive as London, and so you can live very comfortably in a downtown 2 bedroom apartment for around $900 a month.

For a more flash kind of lifestyle, a lot of young professionals with a bit of a larger budget head to the newer developed Gunwark Quays with many apartment buildings having been built there in the past few years – although buying here will set you back more than downtown, rent should be around the $1100 a month mark.

Flats for Rent Port Solent Portsmouth

Think of Port Solent as the Monaco of Portsmouth – with property perched on the very edge of the luxurious marina, those renting an apartment in Port Solent will often wake up to fabulous views of the water and the grand yachts that float on it. With countless high end restaurants and bars fanning out across the marina, there is always something to do as well and Port Solent is proving to be a very attractive area for both young professionals and families. However, as far as renting an apartment in Port Solent is concerned – most of the property in the area are large townhouses, and as such competition for flats is high. This has resulted in a surge in prices here, with a 2 bedroom apartment costing around $1700 a month for a prime location near the water.

Flats for Rent Buckland, Portsmouth

The home of Charles Dickens, Buckland has been a residential suburb of Portsmouth since the late 1100's! Still very close to the city of Portsmouth, rentals in Buckland are nowhere near as expensive and as such Buckland has a very high population density. A lot of the rentals here now are comprised of renovated social housing from the 1960's, and although this might mean the building itself isn't too attractive, landlords have been known to work wonders and create lovely homes here. There are 1-bedroom flats for rent for around the $750 a month mark, but for just a bit more you can even find yourself in a 2/3-bedroom terraced house – indeed there are a lot more of these on the market for rent in Buckland than custom built flats.

Public Transportation Portsmouth

Portsmouth really isn’t the largest of towns and its public transportation system really just consists of buses. There are two main operators that cover Portsmouth and the surrounding areas and between them there are enough lines and services to get you anywhere you need to go in the city. There is a great train network that goes out of Portsmouth and you can find yourself in London in just 90 minutes.
