Although at first glance you might not think it, Sacramento is the capital city of California. It is a small haven that is tucked into the interior of the giant state. Sacramento doesn’t benefit from grand notoriety as its bigger city neighbors on the coast. Although it doesn’t shine as bright, it still a sizeable major city and as such, also has its attractive qualities. In recent years, the city has been considered one of the best places to go for foodies. In fact, Sacramento is known as both the home of, and the lead voice in the farm-to-table culture. Much of the produce that feeds the United States comes from Sacramento, needless to say many of the restaurants and groceries there offer locally sourced food. It also happens that the city is currently going through a period of economic development, whereas job growth is on the rise and apartments in Sacramento are increasingly affordable. Because it was one of the cities hit particularly hard during the recession, finding apartments for rent in Sacramento is not as much of a boon as it is in other populous cities.
When recently moving to Sacramento or relocating within the city, renting or subletting a room in a shared apartment is often the more cost-effective choice as opposed to renting an apartment on your own. Also keep in mind that it’s described as a “sprawling” city, so getting around by car is almost necessary for most neighborhoods. When looking for rooms in Sacramento, choosing the right area for you will impact whether you spend more or less on rent and commuting costs. Midtown is an area of Sacramento that is a walkable area. It’s also known as a hip and trendy part of town that is also a stone’s throw away from downtown. The pace of life here is faster than in the suburbs, and for these reasons the area is already popular among young professionals. East Sacramento and Folsom are more upscale areas to find Sacramento rooms for rent. These areas are a bit pricer, more suburban in feel, and is inhabited by more established professionals.
Students that live off-campus in Sacramento don’t often have much difficulty securing a place to live; particularly student apartments in Sacramento. There are several areas around town that happen to harbor many of the students that come to attend the universities in the area. College Greens is located to the east of downtown, and is a great place when looking for student apartments in Sacramento, especially if you’re attending Sacramento State, as it is quite close by. College Greens is not just a college town though, the area also tends to attract young families. On the other hand, there is also the neighborhood of Davis when it comes to student residences in Sacramento. Per the name, Davis happens to be close to University of California Davis campus. This neighborhood was practically designed specifically for students and young professionals living in the area. The place is crawling with delicious eateries and lively bars and local breweries. Another feature of the Davis neighborhood is the strong sense of bike culture. The city infrastructure supports the regular use and commute of bicycles on the road, which makes it one of the only neighborhoods besides Midtown that is bike/walk-friendly.
