San Diego Apartments by District

With San Diego being such a moved too city throughout history, it's position right near the Mexican border and a complete mix of people – there are almost countless districts to accommodate any personality. Whether you are after gourmet dining in the Gaslamp District or prefer chilling out at the epitome of the SoCal vibe in Ocean Beach, there is something for everyone.

The East Village is one of the most happening areas in San Diego right now, just a short walk to the rest of downtown. This area was formally known as a place just for warehouses before gentrification took hold and transformed it, many apartment buildings now having roofs that peer into PetCo Park itself! For cheaper rents and a homier feel, just jump next door to Little Italy and enjoy roomier apartments with countless cafe patio's lining the streets.

Cortez Hill Apartments

Located on the hills just on the edges of downtown San Diego, apartments in Cortez Hill have some of the best views in the city. With potential sweeping views of beautiful Balboa Park, San Diego Bay and the city itself, it's no wonder that apartments for rent in Cortez Park have always been popular. One of the oldest and more storied residential areas in San Diego, its streets are filled with a mix of old Victorian homes and newer apartment blocks with a good variety of apartments inside.

The prices aren't the cheapest in San Diego, despite the community and village feel, you are still downtown after all, with 1-bedroom apartments renting at an average of $1700, 2 and 3-bedroom apartments in Cortez Hill can reach even loftier price tags though.

Sunset Cliffs Apartments

If you are moving to San Diego, chances are you love living by the sea; hearing the ocean fall against the rocks, smelling the salty breeze and gazing out into the horizon. Apartments in Sunset Cliffs have all of this in abundance. The only problem is that there are not too many apartments in Sunset Cliffs itself. The area is full of beautiful homes and prominent families and hasn't been hit by the development that the city has.

There really aren't any high-rise condo blocks in this area, and whilst this may prove frustrating for apartment seekers, it does add to the charming and exclusive air that permeates around the district. Where rentals in Sunset Cliffs are open they are found in houses, with rooms for rent or full properties becoming available.

Talmadge Apartments

A little further out from the city than our other highlighted districts is Talmadge, an area that is fast gathering a good reputation as a liveable neighborhood in San Diego. Compared to the glitz and glamour of downtown neighborhoods, rentals in Talmadge really benefit from an increasingly community driven feel. There are still dozens of 'mom and pop' style eateries and cafes, each with their own feel and character and all extremely welcoming.

With Talmadge being a very safe and green district, it is a great place for families as well as single people with commonplace community driven events like farmers markets and charity runs offering ample opportunities to meet people. Rentals in Talmadge also benefit from the cheaper zip code and you can get a lot more for your money compared to downtown.

Public Transport San Diego

San Diego's public transportation system, whilst useful for jaunts downtown, isn’t the most comprehensive system in the USA. There are several buses and trolleys that nip around the major downtown areas, and for seeing the hotspots; the trolleys are pretty great. However, if you are staying a little further out of the city – you will be best served renting a car or taking a taxi. The city is also very bike friendly however featuring a lot of bike lanes, and so it’s a great option to get out and enjoy the sun!
