Turin Apartments by District

Turin has been reinvented in the last few decades. Previously it was known as the car manufacturing center of Italy, where countless Fiats were sent onto the roads – however, in the last 1900's the cites economy fell away, with tens of thousands out of work. The city of Turin could have withered away, but chose to reinvent itself and the 10 districts that make up the city.

The more central districts have always been popular, the grand buildings and streets dating back to the Roman age – wonderful apartments line the boulevards and there are more restaurants and cafes to count. It's in the outskirts that Turin's revival is most impressive – areas such as Barriera di Milano and Parco Dora are being revitalized and remade into very cool and trendy places to live.

Turin City Center Flats

If you are looking for a home that gives you almost non-stop access to all the nightlife and culture that Torino can offer you, then you certainly need to look into renting a flat in Turin's city center. One of the most beautiful areas of Turin, the city center is home to countless shops, restaurants and museums – and will be the perfect base to explore Turin from.

Rentals in Turin's city center are of course more expensive that other areas of the city, however prices here are still cheaper than you can find in Rome or Milan and more often than not, the apartments are bigger as well. Just outside the downtown area is the central district of La Collina which is worth considering. Historically a wealthy district – you can find green spaces and parks here mixed in with the monuments and statues.

Flats in Lignotto

Lignotto was always known as being Fiats base in Turin. This was where their headquarters were and where the majority of the manufacturing took place. Now the old spaces and buildings have been reclaimed and the district is home to an enormous leisure area, with the factory being turned into a multi-use complex. The area is still fairly recent and as such it does have a bit of a 'man made' feel to it, as opposed to other more historic areas of the city. Apartments in Lignotto are almost always found in older buildings – buildings that have been renovated in recent years. The district is also a little bit out of town, with the city center around 45 minutes away by public transport.

San Salvario Flats

San Salvario has long suffered from holding a bad reputation – but in recent years, it is breaking out and establishing itself as one of the cooler and edgier parts of Turin. South of the downtown area – San Salvario was historically a working-class area and not one of the safest places to walk around at night.

However, with the gentrification process working in its favour, San Salvario has become full of some of the best bars and restaurants in Turin – and with the grand Valentino Park nearby, the district comes alive in the summer. Apartments in San Salvario are typically cheap – with a lot of working class families and students living in the area – although the previous reputation remains a little, the truth is – renting a flat in San Salvario would be one of the cooler things to do in Turin.
